Can You Install Vinyl Flooring Over Tile?

Yes — luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is the easiest flooring to install over ceramic or porcelain tile. Because vinyl is flexible and thin (4–12mm), it conforms well to minor imperfections. The tile must be firmly bonded (no loose or hollow tiles), clean, and reasonably flat — no more than 3/16" variation per 10 feet. Grout lines deeper than 1/8" should be filled with floor leveler before installing.

Can You Install Laminate Flooring Over Tile?

Yes, but laminate requires more preparation than vinyl. Laminate is rigid and does not flex, so the surface must be very flat. Raised grout lines will cause the laminate to wobble and eventually crack at joints. If grout lines are flush or below the tile, installation is straightforward.

Can You Install Engineered Hardwood Over Tile?

Floating engineered hardwood can be installed over tile similarly to laminate — the surface must be clean, flat, and dry. Glue-down engineered hardwood is also possible and provides a more stable result. Solid hardwood should never be glued or nailed directly to tile.
